No viable method other than hanging: Oral Submission of Central Government

Advocate Rishi Malhotra had filed a petition last year before the Supreme Court of India seeking dignified death for the convicts. He had submitted that death by lethal injection is practised in several States in the U.S. The Law Commission of India had also recommended ‘lethal injection’. The Hon’ble Apex Court had given the government four weeks to file the affidavit.

Additional Solicitor-General Pinky Anand orally submitted on 9 January, 2018 that “today, there is no viable method other than hanging.” She requested more time to file a detailed affidavit.
