Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2017 to be considered during Budget Session

Ministry of Women and Child Development formulated a draft Bill on “Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill ”. It invited comments from the public in 2016. A group of ministers constituted to examine the Draft Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2017 approved the proposed legislation.

The Bill aims to create a strong legal, economic and social environment against trafficking of persons and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. The proposed legislation on trafficking divides various offences into “trafficking” and “aggravated trafficking”.  It also recommends a national anti-trafficking relief and rehabilitation committee.
