Vacation benches of Apex Court to work during Winter breaks

During the last years, the Hon’ble Apex  Court has been constituting ‘Vacation Bench’ during its Summer Breaks. It made a debut to constitute similar Benches even during the Christmas Holidays, New Year Holidays and Winter Vacations of 2017-18. The Apex Court shall remain closed between 18 December,2017 till 3 January,2018.

It has constituted the  Special benches to hear the urgent matters as follows –

  •  Bench consisting of the  CJI and Justice Sanjay K Kaul (22 December,2017)
  • Bench consisting of the Justice Adarsh Kumar and Justice Uday Umesh Lalit (22 December,2017)
  • Bench consisting of the  CJI and Justice Navin Sinha (26 December,2017)
  • Bench consisting of Justices Arun Mishra and Justice Deepak Gupta (29 December,2017)

Justice Misra had advised the registry to take consent of the lawyers willing to appear before the court during the winter break.The matters pertaining to Motor Accidents Claims and other miscellaneous matters have been placed to be heard by the Benches.

Earlier , The Law Commission in its Report in 2009 had recommended that vacations in the higher judiciary should be curtailed by at least 10 to 15 days.
